Parents are invited to the Care & Education Academy to take time to settle in with their baby. During this time parents will inform staff of the child’s general routine, likes, dislikes etc. while also getting to know our committed and Friendly qualified staff.

Our Menu is regularly discussed with parents so the children are getting a wide variety of food. All food is prepared for children on the premises, while parents supply the children’s bottles which are stored in the fridge in each room.

Educational  activities in the babyroom  include, , Music , relaxation, Singing, Reading, Art, Water play, Messy play , Sensory play ,Heuristic play, Treasure baskets & Outdoor play.

All feeding, sleeping, changing, medicine administration etc is recorded throughout the day in the child’s diary and discussed with parents when collecting their child that evening so that you can monitor your baby's routine closely.

At the appropriate time, children move into our wobbler room. The parent and senior carer will discuss the move to the next room beforehand so to prepare families as well as children.

Children will be given the opportunity to settle gradually in the wobbler room, by staff providing short periods to visit. During this time the child’s key worker will inform staff of the child’s general routine, likes, dislikes etc. while also giving the child the opportunity to get to know their new key worker.

As your child moves into the wobbler room their routine will become more structured, your child will learn how to walk properly. They will learn more hand-eye co-ordination. They will start to explore more. Children will be provided with new opportunities that will further enhance their development and skills.

As your child becomes more independent, we adapt the routine to cater to their need. Their routines will become a little more structured, but will allow for rest period when needed.

Toddlers /Pre-Montessori

Our Staff constantly encourage language development and good behaviour.

This room is full of toys appropriate to their age including a home corner with kitchen area, dressing up equipment, trains, cars, Painting, blocks, jigsaws, creative activities and outdoor tricks. All toys stimulate the children's sensory explorations, independence and creativity. The children, whilst under close supervision enjoy a wide variety of age appropriate activities, which aim to enhance their creative and social development, some activities include cutting, glueing, sand, painting, and play dough. Outdoor play is an important and enjoyable activity which the children participate in daily.

Parents are encouraged to work closely with staff at this stage, to ensure the child is ready for the toilet-training process. During this time it is important that we work together in toilet training your child, by following the same routines.

At this stage children will begin to make friends, while also enjoy taking part in group activities. By the time your child is ready to leave the Toddler Room they will have a good level of communication and will now be able to retain vast amounts of information and to formulate ideas.

Montessori

Montessori Sessions / Curriculum

Montessori is the curriculum framework for children from over 3 years. The main idea of Montessori is simply treating every child with respect, giving them the freedom within the limits of a carefully structured environment, and allowing them to develop naturally at their own pace. The focus is on the development of the whole child by providing manipulative materials that are organized and made available to children for independent use stimulating their natural instincts and interests for self-directed learning.
The main areas in Montessori are:

  • Practical Life material - provides children with opportunities to develop self-confidence, self-discipline and life skills.
  • Sensorial material - enhances the child’s ability to judge different dimension’s while also stimulating the senses.
  • Language, Math’s, Culture provide opportunities for the child to develop their language, problem solving, ability to match quantity with numerals, understand the decimal system and enlarge the child’s knowledge of the cultural world.

Through the Montessori curriculum children develop social relationships through free interaction, concentration, motivation and social maturity.
At Care and Education Academy our Montessori rooms have been certified by St Nicholas Montessori Society of Ireland. This certification is an independent quality assurance programme.

Settling in Period

At Care and Education Academy we recommend that you settle your child in gradually over a few days in the centre. Allow three to five days for the settling in period, parents come in with the child and stay for an hour or two, gradually the parents will stay shorter periods each day, depending on the child. This gives the child the opportunity to become familiar with the staff and their surroundings and also to realise that their parents will be back for them. During this time we also recommend that the child is picked up early each day and not left for the full day.

At the Care & Education we encourage parents to leave their child in the centre for short periods of time one week before your child starts with us. This settling in period allows you and your child to familiarise yourselves with the centre, staff and other children. The duration of the settling in period is 10 complimentary hours but is solely at the discretion of the manager of the centre. The settling in period is always the week before the commencement date and is free of charge.
